Four Shields – Four schools win!

Our cricket carnival was a blast – a T20 Blast.

This exciting game format was enjoyed by all on a summers-like day at Santich Park in Munster. With all schools competing with 4 teams each, we had some 360 participants. To look around at 9 fields in action it was no wonder that our students were excited and energised all day long. There were big hits, classic catches and sizzling run-outs. There were big scores, plenty of wickets and lots of close games. Our students played like stars.

And then the big stars showed up.

Our students had a chance to get up close and personal with Perth Scorcher Brad Hogg, Western Warrior Michael Hogan and Western Fury player Heather Graham who were there to chat with the kids, sign autographs and play a bit of cricket too. They were also kind enough to stick around and present the shields to the winning schools.

Four different schools took home a shield each. For a full list of results click here.

Last on our calendar for 2014 is Cricket. It promises to be a fun filled event with all 9 schools in attendance, each fielding 4 teams. The event is put together in partnership with staff from WACA, and we will be playing the T20 Blast format.

Athletics Triumph!

Our Athletics Carnivals were held over two days at Santich Park in Munster, home to the Cockburn Little Athletics Club.

There were many examples of outstanding skill, speed and stamina on the track and field, as well as sportsmanship and team spirit off the field. With so many parents coming along to cheer on their school the atmosphere was electric on both days.

Well done to all of our nine schools for their cooperation, organisation and contributions over the two days. Successful carnivals require these ingredients and the CPSSA has it in spades.

It was Mater Christi who took away the shield with a dominant display, with St. Jerome’s placing second. Christ the King won the APPS Shield (Average Points Per Student), and it was pleasing to see that all 9 schools had at least one student who won individual medals.

Day #1 Action.

Well done to our schools for their spirited efforts at Santich Park on Monday. Students gave their all in 400m races, turbojav, shotput and long jump. We also had some of our students with special needs participating in ‘friendly’ track and field events too.

It was great to see many parents put their hand up and volunteer their time to assist in the field events. Your help is much appreciated and always welcome. We are not as well resourced as little athletics clubs, but we go to great lengths to make sure that our carnivals are of a high quality, and that students get ample opportunity to challenge themselves and participate for the enjoyment of the game. It was wonderful to hear many instances of positive feedback from different channels.

We now look forward to Thursday’s events, and we hope to see you there. Please see below for current scores and a selection of photos.
